As To The Plot
In regards to the plot, it’s only fair to tell you that I don’t have a crescendo to reach, a catharsis to share, or a conflict to resolve. Instead, these essays are structured to reflect the course of my life, and through their structure, to give you a more honest biography of your father: a promising beginning; consumed by innumerable tangents; and, in all likelihood, an abrupt ending.
Whatever my shortcomings, just know this: I have been desperately in love with you since your birth, and for a much longer period of time, endlessly enamored by your mother. A lucky man, all in all, even if my white-knuckled death clutch on the bottom rung of the middle class suggests that I should be more disappointed with the accomplishments I ended up achieving.
